Dr. Nisewonger (or Dr. Jessica)

Dr. Jessica is a Central Virginia native, growing up in Chester and residing there still. After graduating from Thomas Dale High School, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from James Madison University in 2007. Dr. Jessica then moved to Memphis, TN to attend Southern College of Optometry, and graduated in 2012 with her Doctor of Optometry degree. Before taking ownership of Family Vision Care at the end of 2015, she practiced in Midlothian for three years.

Dr. Jessica enjoys seeing pediatric patients of all ages (as an InfantSEE provider, she examines babies under one year of age at no charge) and doing specialty contact lens evaluations for patients who have complicated prescriptions, dry eye, or have had eye surgery. If you’ve been told you can’t wear contact lenses, come see us – we’ll tell you what your options are!

When she’s not at work, Dr. Jessica enjoys spending time with her two children, Lachlan (seven) and Lily (three). She also loves to read, do puzzles (of all kinds), roller skate and travel.

Dr. Jessica is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association, and the Richmond Optometric Society.


Matthew, Licensed Dispensing Optician

Matthew Handy is a Chesterfield County native who resides in Henrico, VA. After graduating from Manchester High School, he pursued further education at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College where he received his associate degree in 2014. Afterwards, he completed the Opticianry program and received his certification and license through the American Board of Opticianry in 2016.

Outside of his love for Opticianry, he also enjoys time spent with his parents, brother, sister in law and niece and nephew. He also frequently sings and serves as a member of the praise and worship team for the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God in Richmond, VA.

Mr. Handy currently sits as the 2nd VP of the Opticians Association of Virginia. He is also an active board member for the College of Nursing and Allied Health at J. Sargeant Reynolds for the Opticianry program.


Sharon, Practice Manager

Sharon was born and raised, and still currently resides, in Prince George County. Before joining the FVC family, she was the Practice Manager of a large OB/GYN practice for 24 years.

In her spare time, Sharon enjoys spending time with her children, camping, hiking, going to the beach, reading, listening to music, and supporting her favorite hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. LET’S GO PENS!


Kimberly – Customer Care Coordinator

Kimberly grew up in Chesterfield County and currently lives peacefully in the middle of nowhere, Prince George County, with her husband and two beautiful daughters. She has over 20 years of customer service and joined the “Family” in October of 2019. Kimberly is the first smiling face you’ll see when you walk into our office!


Torrey – Optical Sales Associate

Torrey is a 36-year-old experienced sales and optical professional originally from Florence, SC. He has been a Colonial Heights resident for the last nine years after beginning his optical career in Chester in 2011. A former pro arena football champion, Torrey’s energetic demeanor and dedication to an exceptional customer experience drive his passion for the optical industry!


Sandy – Billing and insurance guru

Sandy is our billing/insurance specialist who makes sure that we have all of your current insurance information so we can submit your claims to insurance correctly. Before starting her job at FVC, she worked as a receptionist, coder, and biller for thirteen years at a large OB/GYN practice. She made the switch to FVC when her daughter, Dr. Jessica, asked her to join the office!

In her spare time, Sandy enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, Lachlan and Lily! She also loves Redskins and Seahawks football, reading, and listening to a variety of music.
